The Tricky Parts of Coming Up With a Domain Name

Submitted by Andrew on Saturday, 28 February 2009No Comment

The Internet has become such a normal part of everyone’s lives these days. There is rarely anyone that can function normally without using the Internet. That’s because the Internet provides everyone several advantages.

Businesses are no exception. Businessmen, of all people, need the Internet more than anyone does. The Internet lets them access a very wide market; wider than traditional marketing could afford them. With the Internet, there is no businessman that cannot get in touch with everyone in the world. Businessmen love the Internet for that; you need not have a physical presence in other countries in order to succeed, because now you can maintain just a website in order to be able to tap the global market.

You now understand how important it is for a business to be able to establish a presence in the Internet. When you have your own domain names, you will be able to do that. However, the process of domain registration is not as easy as it is described. Here are some problems you might come across when you try to find a domain name for your business:

You will certainly find duplicates when you are trying to find a URL. Domain names should be related to your business. Since you have a lot of competition, it is not uncommon for you to find duplicates when you are in the middle of your domain registration tasks. The best way to make sure you don’t find any duplicates is to find a domain name forum and talk with everyone there about existing domain names.

Not all domain names are applicable. This is very true. You can think of the most creative and original name to be registered in the domain aftermarket but it will still do you no good when you put those domain names to the test. That is because brevity is the emphasis in the Internet world nowadays. No one wants to memorize long address: that’s the very reason why domain names have been so popular. Nobody wants to memorize very long IP addresses, which consist of nothing more than numbers in between dots.

It is important to be able to come up with short yet descriptive domain names. As mentioned, brevity is very important when tapping the capabilities of the Internet. No one will want to visit a link or domain that has a very long address. However, no matter how short, you should also be able to come up with keyword rich domains that are also short yet very easy to remember. It takes a lot of research and creativity to achieve just that.
